TOO LITTLE TOO LATE

The US has approved the sale of some 500 Patriot PAC–3 MSE interceptors to Ukraine.

That is the good news.

Zelenskyy has been making repeated request for more of these interceptors.

Now the bad news.

They will not be delivered until 2030.

Lockheed Martin only makes About 650 Patriot interceptors per year.

There are plans for Lockheed Martin to increase this number sevenfold.

Up to 4200 per year.

However, it will take time to create and put the new production facilities and production lines

Zelenskyy has estimated that Ukraine needs about 350 interceptors per month.

This request is unrealistic given the current production schedule.

Even if the 500 interceptor missiles that were purchased were delivered today, if Zelenskyy’s numbers are realistic, they would last less than two months.

There have been discussions of a license being issued to Ukraine to produce its own interceptor missiles.

So far there has been no agreement regarding the license.

A license seems to be the best and most efficient way of Ukraine getting the number of interceptor missiles that it needs.
